Share Your Experiences

Do you belong to a special club or group in your community? If so, we want to hear from you! In each newsletter we will be highlighting our residents and the special things they do. Just send us an email with your name and contact information along with the name of your club or group and as much information as you can about the fun and interesting things that you do to TaraWoods2@hometownamerica.net.

A Special Moment With Kids and Grandkids

Spend some time during the holidays with little loved ones and the NORAD Santa Tracker.

The official NORAD Santa Tracker (your tax dollars at work) goes live on December 1, 2016. This is a must-see for younger children on Christmas Eve. In case you’re wondering, NORAD stands for North American Aerospace Defense Command. It doesn’t get any more official than that. So it seems Santa really does exist if the U.S. government tracks him.

Work Begins on Phase III

We promised to keep you updated on the progress on Phase III, and work has officially begun.

Love It or List It?

Your full-time, in-house Sales Department is excited to remind you this month of two important items when it comes to you and your home in the community.

Planning for Mayhem

The calm before the storm. Source

Whether you’re hosting 10 or 25 (heaven forbid) for a holiday dinner or party, you’re planning for mayhem. Uncle George won’t remember to put fresh batteries in his hearing aid, Aunt Mary will regale the crowd with every medical procedure her hypochondria dictates, and Crazy Uncle Joe will emerge from his cocoon just long enough to get a little too chummy with the female guests before chowing down everything in sight.

Homeowner Tip of the Month: Air Filters 101

The typical home has two air returns as part of the HVAC duct system. The filters are located just inside the air duct return covers. Every bit of air in your home passes through the air filters—usually twice an hour.

Hometown America Cares About Your Opinion!

Hometown America recently sent a survey on services and amenities for your community. Unfortunately after several attempts to collect homeowner’s email addresses over the past few years, we only have email addresses from about 8 percent of our residents. Sharing your email is very important for you as a resident. We send newsletters with valuable information and surveys that help you decide on future possible changes to your community.

Chances are we don’t have your email address. Please give it to your community manager as soon as possible so that you can receive everything essential to ensuring we can help improve your lifestyle!

Doug’s Corner

As you can see, there has been much change in the back of the community with new construction going on. With that said, I want to announce that I will be stepping down as manager and stepping into a project manager position for the new phase of construction. A new manager will be taking my place in December to handle community affairs.

Labor Day Clambake

On Monday, September 5, 2016, the New York/New Jersey Club hosted a Labor Day Clambake for the residents of Tara Woods. To say that it was well attended would be the understatement of the year. Our winter residents had begun to flock home for the season, and it was a time for renewing friendships and spending times with neighbors.

How to Deal With Coyotes

Coyotes pose a problem throughout the United States. These predatory animals have adapted to urban landscapes in addition to their native rural lands. They pose a danger not only to pets but also to humans. The first step in dealing with coyotes is being able to recognize them.

Dessert Kolachky

Kolachky (kolache) cookies are a traditional Central European Christmas dessert. This Polish version uses a light and fluffy cream cheese dough.

Tara Woods Catches the Spirit of Halloween

Do we have some design-minded residents, or what? Tara Woods was decked out in full Halloween spirit. Goblins and ghouls appeared throughout the community. Thanks to Sam Jokich for capturing the spirit of Halloween our residents displayed.

Whatever Happened to Thanksgiving?

Walk into any store after Halloween and all you see is a winter wonderland. Everywhere you turn, there are signs about Black Friday deals, Christmas trees galore and enough lights to light up a small island. This isn’t a bad thing, but whatever happened to Thanksgiving?

Scam Alert: Credit Repair Services

The National Council on Aging considers senior scams to be “the crime of the 21st century.” The FBI notes that seniors were raised to be trusting and polite, and these traits leave them open to financial scams. They don’t usually hang up on telemarketers, and they find it hard to say, “No,” to the voice on the other end of the line. Further, when seniors fall victim to this type of fraud, they are less likely to report it.
